NASA astronaut Chris Williams has safely returned to Earth after spending 241 days in space, concluding a long-duration mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
Williams landed on Sunday, July 26, 2026, in a remote area near Zhezkazgan, Kazakhstan, aboard the Soyuz MS-28 spacecraft. He returned alongside Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev, bringing an end to their time as members of Expeditions 73 and 74.
After touching down, recovery teams quickly reached the capsule to assist the crew as they emerged from the spacecraft. Photos released by NASA show Chris Williams smiling shortly after landing, marking the successful completion of nearly eight months in orbit.
During their 241-day mission, the crew supported a wide range of scientific research, technology demonstrations, and routine maintenance aboard the space station. Their work contributed to ongoing studies in human health, biology, physics, and space technologies that will help shape the future of long-duration missions to the Moon and Mars.
Long-duration stays aboard the ISS also provide scientists with valuable insights into how the human body adapts to life in microgravity. The knowledge gained from these missions plays an important role in preparing astronauts for future deep-space exploration.
Following landing, Williams and his crewmates will undergo routine medical evaluations before beginning their post-flight rehabilitation programs, allowing their bodies to readjust to Earth's gravity after more than seven months in orbit.
